East Coast Datacom, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of Network Latency Emulators will be introducing support for 25GbE network latency emulation testing. With the increasing demand for bandwidth in the data center and cloud computing, 10/25/50/100GbE networking is proving to be the cost effective transition. The biggest improvement in cost vs performance is with 10GbE to 25GbE. The move from 10GbE to 25Gbe has several important benefits. These include the 2.5 times higher data rates with existing server hardware utilizing the same PCIe buss width, lower CPU and power coupled with lower heat in the data center. Now add the lower cable transition of 10GbE to 25Gbe and it is easy to see the real reason why moving to 40GbE is cost prohibitive in most applications. We can all thank the 25 Gigabit Ethernet Consortium for moving fast to implement this important specification.

The EDS-25G will support 2-8 Ports of 10Gbe or 25Gbe per chassis providing users with a very cost effective solution for testing 10G Network Latency or 25G Network Latency.

East Coast Datacom, Inc., a Florida-based communications specialist, announces availability of the Stateful Traffic Generator®, model STG-10G based on a well know traffic generation engine, D-ITG. The STG-10G is composed of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that wraps the D-ITG engine, INTEL® DPDK Fast Packet Technology and other test tools.

Using D-ITG, the STG-10G is capable of producing IPv4 and IPv6 traffic by accurately replicating the workload of current Internet or typical user applications. The platform supports 8-Ports 10/100/1000 and 4-Ports of 10GbE traffic generation managed via the easy to use GUI. This allows users to perform load tests on hardware prior to deployment and to simulate wired or wireless network traffic behavior.

The D-ITG generation engine provides many interesting and unique features. Thanks to it the STG-10G is also a network measurement tool able to measure the most common performance metrics such as throughput, delay, jitter and packet loss at the packet level. The STG-10G can generate traffic following stochastic models for packet size (PS) and inter departure time (IDT) that mimic application-level protocol behavior. By specifying the distributions of IDT and PS random variables, it is possible to choose different renewal processes for packet generation: by using characterization and modeling results from literature, STG-10G is able to replicate statistical properties of traffic of different well-known applications such as Telnet, VoIP - G.711, G.723, G.729, Voice Activity Detection, Compressed RTP - DNS, network games.

At the transport layer, the STG-10G currently supports UDP, TCP, ICMP, DCCP, SCTP and soon to be released support for IGMP. Additionally an FTP-like passive mode is also supported to conduct experiments in the presence of NATs, and it is possible to set the TOS (DS) and TTL IP header fields. The STG-10G also supports Pcap files with an easy to use Pcap player.

Additional technology from INTEL® called DPDK Fast Packet Technology was integrated into the STG-10G that allows wire line rates even for tiny 64byte packets. The combination of D-ITG and INTEL® DPDK technology allows the STG-10G to generate traffic at comparable rates to FPGA based proprietary systems at half the price.

East Coast Datacom worked in collaboration with the D-ITG authors who have over 25 publications in the field of IP Traffic Generation. The easy to use Graphical User Interface(GUI) is designed with closed and open source software that present a unique product.

With a host of user features, ease of use and free software upgrades included in a 3-Year warranty, the STG-10G is well positioned for budget conscious buyers.

East Coast Datacom (ECD), Inc., a Florida-based data communications accessory specialist, announces the Async2IP Secure Console Server. The Async2IP connects up to four async remote console serial ports, across a 10/100 LAN to the serial ports of a terminal at a central network control site. The Async2IP converts the full duplex asynchronous serial data stream to an encrypted TCP/IP packet stream.

The Async2IP units are initially configured via secure SSL HTML “web page” interfaces. This process allows the user to configure the LAN IP Address and the RS-232 Port speeds. After configuration all command and data functions are accomplished inside the terminal interface at the central site using HyperTerminal or Putty. The central site Async2IP unit functions as a Master Device. The Master Device can connect one session at a time to an unlimited amount of Remote Site units. Two or more Async2IP units are required to connect the serial devices over the LAN.

The Async2IP RS-232 serial ports are presented as a DCE device using an 8-pin RJ-45 connector for each of its asynchronous ports. The RJ-45 ports are pinned to be compatible with popular Routers and Switches.

Using the Async2IP is similar to using legacy dialup modems. From within the terminal window on the PC (which is connected to a Master Async2IP unit) an IP address and port number is entered while in command mode. Upon hitting ENTER this IP address is used to establish a secure TCP session with the desired Remote unit. When this TCP session is successfully made the two Async2IP units are now in Data Mode working just like a legacy modem would.

Once in Data mode all keystrokes entered in the terminal window are delivered to the attached remote user device at the other end of the LAN link. Conversely all display data generated by the remote user device is delivered to the terminal window in near Real Time.

The Async2IP is housed in a sturdy 19 inch 1U high chassis and has a 90-120 VAC power supply. Additional power supplies of 90-240VAC or 36 to 72 Volts DC are also available.

The Async2IP has a 3-year warranty and a 24 hour turnaround on warranty repairs

East Coast Datacom (ECD), Inc., a Florida-based data communications accessory specialist, announces the RDS-SB Satellite Buffer with Differential Frequency Discriminator.

The RDS-SB is intended to provide a unidirectional 2.097 Mbit elastic data buffering (FIFO memory) function between two systems having nominally equivalent clocking rates. The two systems may be either running asynchronously, or may be traceable to a common timing source while one or both systems may possess a high degree of clock jitter. An option switch on the front panel allows the RDS-SB internal buffer memory to utilize a Differential Frequency Discriminator to prevent the FIFO memory from re-centering after an underrun or overflow until the frequency difference between the two external clocks is within a set range.

The 2.097 Mb First-In, First-out (FIFO) memory is used to buffer data inand out of the unit. Receive data may be simultaneously written into the FIFO while transmit data is read out. Internal counters track the FIFO level and are used to indicate underrun and overflow conditions, as well as indicate when the FIFO is half-full (centered) after initialization. A Differential Frequency Discriminator (DFD) may be invoked to conditionally hold off accepting received data and re-centering the FIFO after a power-on cycle, or an underrun or overflow condition occurs, until the frequency difference between the two port clocks falls within a set range of approximately 400 Hz. The purpose of this function is to prevent an out of range clocking source from repeatedly producing frequent underrun or overflow conditions.

When this function is invoked, and only after an underrun or overflow condition occurs, the FIFO memory is held in an initial state of emptyif the DFD indicates that the absolute frequency differential is outside the range. If at any time within the sample window of the DFD (approx. 20mS), this differential should fall within the range, the FIFO will re-center normally and begin transferring data. (NOTE: It is possible in some cases that the average frequency differential will be outside the range, but may at times fall within the range due to clock jitter. This will be sufficient to trigger re-centering of the FIFO and transfer of data.)

The RDS-SB has a list price of $1195.00 US Dollars.
