DBU-2328_M: 8-Port RS-232 Broadcast Unit with Dual Input and Intelligent Failover — Engineered for Network Infrastructure Reliability

Rockledge, Florida – East Coast Datacom, Inc., a manufacturer of advanced serial communication hardware, is pleased to introduce the DBU-2328_M — a purpose-built 8-port RS-232 asynchronous data broadcast unit designed to meet the demanding needs of network engineers deploying and maintaining serial-based infrastructure.

Designed for high-availability serial data distribution, the DBU-2328_M features dual RS-232 input ports (Port-A and Port-B) with built-in RTS/CTS handshaking logic for automatic failover. The unit accepts any asynchronous protocols and ensures that only one input source is active at a time, with seamless switchover to standby if the active port's RTS signal drops.

Once a connection is established, the input data is simultaneously broadcast to eight independent RS-232 output ports (Port-1 through Port-8). This makes the DBU-2328_M ideal for network environments requiring synchronized distribution of a serial data stream to multiple downstream systems, such as terminal servers, SCADA equipment, modems, or legacy hardware.

Key Features for Network Deployment:

  • Dual RS-232 Input Ports with RTS/CTS Logic: Enables smart source selection with active-standby input switching for redundancy.

  • 8 RS-232 Output Ports: Simultaneous data replication for parallel distribution.

  • Character Format Support: Any asynchronous protocol supported

  • Data Rates – Up to 19.2kbps

  • LED Status Indicators (Front Panel):

    • Power status

    • Port-A / Port-B active indicator

    • RTS / TXD / CTS line status

    • Port enable switch status

    • HELLO test mode activation

  • HELLO Test Mode (Installation Diagnostic Tool):
A dedicated test mode can be enabled via a recessed rear-panel push button, which transmits a diagnostic 9.6 kbps async pattern (8, N, 1) on all output ports. Ideal for validating cabling and port connectivity during initial setup. Visual indicators (flashing red LEDs) confirm active test state. Exit test mode with a second press of the recessed switch.

  • Easy Serial Line Validation: Use standard terminal emulation software (e.g., PuTTY) to confirm data integrity during installation or troubleshooting cabling.

Applications:

  • Serial-to-multi-endpoint broadcast environments

  • Redundant control system signaling

  • Out-of-band management networks

  • Test labs and serial bus monitoring

  • SCADA and industrial control systems
